Lisa Middleton grew up in a working-class community and understands the challenges that working families across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are facing from inflation and rising costs of groceries, gas, and housing. That’s why Lisa will work to support small businesses, while investing in infrastructure and affordable housing to create good-paying jobs. Lisa comes from a family of union members, and she is committed to standing up for workers’ rights, raising the minimum wage to a livable wage, and ensuring safer working conditions and paid family medical leave. That’s why Lisa is endorsed by nurses, firefighters and local police, classroom teachers, and construction workers.
BUILDING MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING
California’s housing affordability crisis demands urgent action, and Lisa Middleton is committed to building more housing and creating a pathway to homeownership for working families across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. As our State Senator, Lisa will work across the aisle to cut expensive red tape, invest in affordable housing development, and create good-paying construction jobs.
PROTECTING REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
Lisa Middleton is a committed advocate for reproductive freedom and will fight to safeguard women's rights and protect access to safe, legal abortion. In the Senate, Lisa will work to increase funding for reproductive healthcare clinics and protect patients who come to California seeking abortion care from states where abortion has been criminalized. She also campaigned for the constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights in California in 2022. Lisa is the only candidate for Senate District 19 endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest and Reproductive Freedom for All California.
CREATING SAFER COMMUNITIES
Lisa Middleton is endorsed by local firefighters, paramedics, and police officers who know that she will fight to keep our communities safe. On the City Council, Lisa has invested in increasing the number of first responders to reduce emergency response times, and she’ll do the same across our region in the State Senate. Lisa is also committed to combating gun violence. Unlike her opponent, who has an A-rating from the NRA, Lisa supports strengthening California’s gun safety laws to keep weapons of war off our streets and out of the hands of criminals and domestic abusers.
SOLVING THE HOMELESSNESS CRISIS
California has spent $20 billion on the homelessness crisis, and yet the population of unhoused Californians has exploded. Lisa Middleton will bring fresh ideas and a new approach to the Legislature — including giving local governments more authority to enact policies that work for their communities and the reliable funding necessary to create long-term solutions. Lisa will also work to implement California’s new Care Courts faster, so we can help get unhoused people with severe mental illness off our streets and connected with the treatment, services, and supportive housing they need.
COMBATING GOVERNMENT WASTE & FRAUD
Lisa Middleton worked as an auditor and executive for California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund, where she helped investigate fraud and government waste — working her way up to Chair of California’s Fraud Assessment Commission. On the Commission, Lisa worked closely with District Attorneys across the state to prosecute workers compensation fraud, successfully prosecuting the largest workers compensation fraud case in state history. In the Legislature, Lisa will use her unique background and expertise to eliminate wasteful spending of our tax dollars and lead efforts to reduce inefficiencies in government.
INVESTING IN ROADS, BRIDGES & TRANSPORTATION
Lisa Middleton serves on the Riverside County Transportation Commission, where she is known as a hard-working, bipartisan leader who invests in rebuilding roads, bridges and public transportation throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, while creating good-paying, middle-class jobs. It is past time for San Bernardino and Riverside Counties to receive the fair share of California’s infrastructure budget that our growing population and industry require. In the Senate, Lisa will fight to bring our tax dollars back to our region and invest in the infrastructure and transportation we need to support our economy.
